Getting Started with PDF Compression

Step 1: Upload Your PDF

Start by uploading the PDF file you want to compress. You can drag and drop your file directly onto the upload area or click to browse your computer. The tool works with PDF files of any size.

Once uploaded, you'll see the file name and size displayed. The tool will automatically analyze your PDF to determine the best compression approach.

Step 2: Choose Your Compression Profile

Select the compression profile that best fits your needs:

  • Screen: Highest compression for web viewing and email (smallest file size)
  • Ebook: Good compression for digital reading and sharing
  • Printer: Balanced compression for printing and general use
  • Prepress: Low compression for professional printing and archiving

The higher the compression, the smaller the file size, but quality may be reduced.

Step 3: Compress Your PDF

Click the "Compress PDF" button to start the compression process. The tool will:

  • Analyze your PDF to identify optimization opportunities
  • Apply the selected compression profile to reduce file size
  • Maintain text quality while compressing images and graphics
  • Create a new, smaller PDF file for you to download

Processing time depends on the file size and complexity. Large files may take a minute or two.

Step 4: Download Your Compressed PDF

Once compression is complete, your browser will automatically download the compressed PDF file. The file will be named with "compressed_" prefix.

  • The download starts automatically when processing finishes
  • You can compare the file sizes to see the space you've saved
  • Your original file remains unchanged on your computer
  • The compressed file maintains the same content but with reduced size

The compressed PDF is ready to use for email, web upload, or storage.

Helpful Tips for Better Results

  • • Use "Screen" profile for files you'll view on computers or send via email
  • • Choose "Ebook" for documents you'll read on tablets or phones
  • • Select "Printer" for documents you might need to print later
  • • Use "Prepress" only for professional printing or when quality is critical
  • • Files with lots of images will see the biggest size reductions
  • • Text-heavy documents may not compress as much but will still be smaller
  • • The tool works best with standard PDF documents rather than scanned images
  • • If you're not sure which profile to use, start with "Ebook" - it's a good balance
